When Should You Work For Free?

Love it or hate it, it is a huge part of the indie filmmaker world. Most of us have done a ton of work for free, well let me take that back we have worked in the hopes of learning and networking. But unfortunately more times than not newbie filmmakers end up working on short films they gain very little experience from because maybe the director or cinematographer are just as new and aren't really in a position to provide a set that is in a position for someone to learn from. So the question turns into, do you know how to determine if an opportunity is worth your time to work for free on it. What are the red flags? What should you look for? In this episode of the Creative AF Podcast Michael Mueller and Curtis Wyatt discuss their experiences of working for free, still working for free and what you should look for before accepting that non-paid production assistant position role.
